Sanem Kalfa – VOX

Sanem Kalfa is a Turkish singer with a distinctive style, mixing jazz, improvisation, and world music into a powerful blend of emotions. After studying cello, she moved from Turkey to the Netherlands to study singing. During her studies she won several awards, including the 1st Prize Shure Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition presided by Quincy Jones. In 2014 she released her debut album “Nehir”. She released her second album “DANCE” as a duo with George Dumitriu in May 2018. Her last album with George Dumitriu and Joachim Badenhorst “Blacksea Songs” will be released by El Negocito Records in Jazz 2020.”

Sanem kalfa was born in Trabzon, a city on the Black Sea coast of northeast Turkey. Black sea is the call of green and people from this region are full of humor and deeply dedicated to earth. Emotional swings go hand in hand with the waves of the Black sea.

Sanem is currently based in Amsterdam, performing worldwide and pleased to teach music to students (from any age and background). Her main aim is to be a part of an experience that will help enriching life by music.

Onur Aymergen – GUITAR

began his professional career playing classical guitar, classical Flamenco and later became interested in Rock, Funk and Jazz music. He works in a variety of styles. He recently wrote his thesis on Turkish Maqam Harmony and is currently composing for several jazz-related projects.

Ozan Musluoğlu – BASS

started studying at the Bilgi University Music Department in 2000 with full scholarship. He attended workshops by Marc Johnson, David Friesen, Dominique Lemerle, Robert Balzar and many others. He was a part of the band ‘Athena’, with whom he played many shows all around the world. In 2004 the band took fourth place in the Eurovision Song Contest.

His debut album ‘Coincedence’ was released in 2009. In the May of 2011 his second album ’40th Day’ was released. The band consisted of Jeremy Pelt, named the trumpet player of the year 5 consecutive times by the Downbeat magazine, JD Allen on tenor saxophone, Danny Grissett on piano an Darrell Green on drums. His third album, ‘My Best Friends Are Pianists’ was released in late 2012. The album featured Turkey’s top 12 piano players. Ozan regularly performs with the TRT Jazz Orchestra led by Kamil Özler, and he also hosts the radio show ‘Caz Saati/Jazz Hour’ on TRT Radio 3, which airs at 23:00 every monday.

Turgut Alp Bekoğlu – DRUMS

Born in 1966. He started playing drums as a professional at a very early age and developed himself to be a drum virtuoso. In 1996, worldwide know music legend Arif Mardin invited him to New York because of his musical works. During this period, Arif Mardin supported and consulted him. With the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture, he performed at the “Jazz Made in Turkey” event at Lincoln Jazz Centre with the group Telvin that he founded in 1995 together with fretless guitar virtuoso Erkan Ogur and bass virtuoso Ilkin Deniz. Recently, Bekoğlu released his first solo album called “Love Jazz” on February 2019. During his carrier he performed with Gloria Gaynor, Joe Lovano, Erik Truffaz, Arto Tunçboyacıyan, Sezen Aksu and Ajda Pekkan at concerts or recordings in Turkey and around the globe. Today he continues working on his personal works and performs with Erkan Ogur / Anatolian Blues and Ilhan Ersahin’s Istanbul Sessions.

They gathered for a concert in the summer of 2018 and immediately noticed the vibe with an appreciating audience especially for their improvised compositions arising instantly from the shared creative urge on stage, seamlessly unifying them as -the band. Next task was to capture such creation scene performances in an equivalently balanced studio setup for -the record. zum4tet naturally became an indispensable and longer term collaboration among those four Turkish descent valued jazz artists that are also very active in their solo paths. The debut full-length release of zum4tet band is scheduled for April 2021. Their music consist of jazz and world music elements; with odd meters and unique voice leading centric approach to melodic & rhythmic improvisation, they were able to replicate the profound sound of -the concert to remember in this record.
